Luke Cage is the Hero for Hire

If you’re looking for a new superhero TV show to indulge in, look no further. Marvel has teamed up with Netflix again to bless us with the new Netflix Original series, Luke Cage. Since making his first appearance in Netflix Original Jessica Jones, fans have been waiting for the day to see a Luke Cage series of his own. And Sweet Christmas that day is finally among us.

If you’re unaware of who Luke Cage is, he is a man who was wrongly imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. While in prison an experiment that was conducted on him gave him unbreakable skin and super strength. He now uses his newly found abilities to fight crime in the city of Harlem.

Netflix Original Luke Cage will feature an all-star cast such as Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Mahershala Ali, and many more. Also if you’re into rap and hip-hop you’ll definitely be pleased with this show because it’s heavily influenced by it. Even down to the title of each episode being named after a Gang Starr song.

This is a show that I’ve personally had on my radar for numerous reasons. With there being very few black superheroes that get recognition, it’s great to see Luke Cage getting so much love and support. Also, the statement that he is making by being a black hero that wears a hoodie. In light of Trayvon Martin being murdered and the media making it out to seem that his clothing played a role in his death, the rebranding of a black man in a hoodie is well needed.

You’ll be able to watch season 1 of Luke Cage on September 30th only on Netflix. In the mean time, check out the trailer below.

    • Yeah you should definitely check it out whenever you get a chance to. Even if you’re not into superheroes, this show addresses a lot of social issues that black people are currently dealing with.
