This Fall, Donald Glover wants to show us what it’s like to come up in the rap industry in his new show, “Atlanta.” It is about two cousins, Earnest Marks (Donald Glover) and Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles (Brian Tyree Henry), working their way through the Atlanta music scene in order to provide a better life for themselves and their families. Mr. Glover created and wrote the pilot for “Atlanta” which has caught the attention of FX Network who orders a 10-episode season back in October 2015.
I, for one, am looking forward to the premiere of “Atlanta” for numerous reasons. Donald Glover is looking to do more then creating a show, but also making a statement. Mr. Glover skipped out on the traditional writing room and decided to write the majority of “Atlanta” inside of his home through just normal conversations with the other writers for this show. Also, speaking of writers, all of the writers on staff for “Atlanta” are black which is unheard of in comparison to other tv shows. And the entire show was shot in Georgia which adds to the appeal by showing places known on a “locals only” bases.
What I think Donald Glover is trying to do with “Atlanta” is show that you don’t have to do things the traditional way in order for it to be popular. Sometimes it’s better to not do things by the book. It’s a great way to come up with creative ideas that you probably other wise wouldn’t. Just look at the amount of attention that “Atlanta” is getting for example. I don’t think I’ve seen this type of attention for a new network television show in sometime now. Especially since we live in a time where streaming services like Netflix and Hulu are more popular than live television.
If you are looking for something new to watch this Fall I would highly recommend giving this show a chance. The good thing is you don’t have to wait much longer because it premieres in less then two weeks! Therefore be sure to tune in on September 6th to watch “Atlanta” only on FX.
