Paragon: Fun to Play, Stressful to Tolerate

The MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) created by Epic Games, Paragon, has finally gone into open beta and is available for free today. I’ve been playing this game for some time now since the alpha stage a few months ago that you could’ve gotten access to if you purchased a founders pack. I can definitely say that this is one of my favorite games for this year and has earned its spot in my go to games to play. Currently I’ve racked up almost 5 days worth of playtime in Paragon and I take that as no offense.

The main objective of Paragon is to get through your enemies towers and inhibitors to reach their core and destroy it. What I like about this game is how much it requires you to strategize and work with your teammates to accomplish the goal. This game will quickly teach you that patience is the key to beating your opponent. You definitely will get punished if you do other wise. And this is where the stress comes in. Don’t get me wrong the game itself isn’t stressful, but the players you play with/play against will sometimes make head on the verge of explosion.

I got a chance to play a match earlier today and you can tell that it’s full of new players now that it’s free to everyone. Players on both teams was just being beyond impatient and are only focused on getting kills as oppose to completing the objective. No one was really strategizing and was just doing their own thing. I can’t tell you how many matches I’ve lost due to my teammates careless mistakes. I don’t know…maybe I’m just being harsh because I was able to learn how to play months ago and I have to keep in mind that they’re new. What I do know is this game isn’t going to be for casual gamers.

You definitely have to dedicate some time to this game because just one match has the potential to last over a hour. This alone makes it different from a lot of other games out there because it’s not a game you can get a quick play in before you head to work or something. You also have to be someone who is patient because literally one wrong move has to potential to cost you the game. And teamwork is definitely a major key because that’s the best way to out smart your opponent.

With that being said, I would highly recommend playing Paragon or at least checking it out if you haven’t already. The only thing I would say to any new comers to Paragon is to realize what the objective of this game is. It’s not a team death match type of game you’re going to get here so don’t go in a match thinking that the team with the most kills wins. Trust me, I’ve been in matches where my team was able to win even though the other team had more kills then us just because we was playing the objective. It is teamwork, strategy, and patience that will make that clip of you’re enemies core exploding with the words “Victory” come across your screen. As of today, Paragon is available on PC and PS4 for free.
