This is a flaw of mines that I deal with from time to time. I find myself saying that I’m going to do this, that, and the third…a lot. Trust me, you don’t want to know how much stuff I have on my to do list that I haven’t crossed off that list yet. Just know that I have a long way to go. I say that to say this, I feel that this is a problem that many of us have when we say more than we do.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s perfectly fine to say you’re going to do something. It shows that you have an interest and that’s you’re willing to put yourself in that situation. It’s never a bad thing to have plans. But the thing with only saying you’re going to do something doesn’t mean anything unless you put some action behind those words. Strategy and execution goes hand in hand.
My thing is this, unless you’re absolutely sure you’re going to do it I would suggest that you don’t say you are until your ready. Speaking from experience it can only lead to disappointment to both the people around you and yourself. Unfortunately a lot of people don’t realize the power that comes with words and what they mean. And what more powerful than that is the action because it adds context to what you’re saying and the meaning of it.
But with that being said, I know it can be difficult to find a place to start when it comes to executing your plans. It could even be overwhelming at times which can be discouraging. And at this point it’s just easier to talk your way out of it. You have to remember that things take time to come together. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Therefore take things one step at a time and build up your courage and get past the overwhelming stage so that you can do whatever it is you say you’re going to do.
